Gowalla’s Williams on the Future of the Application
Foursquare’s Crowley on Radar, Siri and Mobile’s New Push Interface

NEW Update Comes with Foursquare Lists! (at least I think it’s new)

Gowalla 4.0 Update: What’s New
- Over 60 new social guides for cities around the world
- Park guides from Disney and National Geographic
- Faster, social storytelling from the places you love

Gowalla is relaunching its service with an eye toward becoming more of a city travel guide, downplaying the role of check-ins in favor of discovery, travel and storytelling.

Blendr is a new app that help users find other users based on shared interests and physical proximity, as close as one block away. Unlike Foursquare, where you have to go outside the app to Twitter to talk to people or leave time-delayed comments on check-ins, Blendr keeps your interaction with nearby people in the same app.
*I wonder what’s the common interest shared among the people in this screenshot? :/
Pew reports that 28% of cell owners use phones to get directions or recommendations based on their current location (that works out to 23% of all U.S. adults). Only 5 percent of cell phone owners user their phone to check-in to locations using apps like Foursquare or Gowalla.
And 9% of internet users incorporate their location into Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn (7% of all adults). And 28% of U.S. adults do at least one of these activities either on a computer or using their mobile phones.
